From November 9 to 11, 2022, the Second Annual Symposium on Transportation Infrastructure (TriDurLE 2nd Annual Symposium 2022) held by National Center for Transportation Infrastructure Durability&Life Extension was held in Hawaii, the United States. The theme of the conference was Transportation Infrastructure Durability&Life Extension. There were 9 sub venues in total, and 38 domestic and foreign industry scholars gave presentations, Ahmed Abdulakeem, a doctoral student of our school, was invited to make a report online.
Ahmed Abdulakeem, a doctoral student of our school, is currently in his second year of doctoral studies. He is a Nigerian international student and his supervisor is Professor Sheng Yanping of the Materials Department. He reported on the preparation of environment-friendly composite flame retardants for tunnels and the performance research of flame retardant asphalt at this meeting under the title Preparation and Characterization of Low Flammable Asphalt for Tunnel Pavements. Based on the pyrolysis characteristics of asphalt, a new environment-friendly composite flame retardant was designed and its surface was modified with silane coupling agent. Then, through the study of the influence of the content of the modified composite flame retardant on the basic road performance, rheological properties and flame retardancy of asphalt, the optimal content was determined. Finally, the influence of composite flame retardant on the pavement performance of asphalt mixture is studied from the aspects of high and low temperature performance and water stability. The flame retardant performance of composite flame retardant modified asphalt mixture is studied through Marshall combustion test, rut plate combustion test and cone calorimeter test. The research shows that the composite flame retardant modified asphalt mixture not only has good flame retardancy, but also can effectively reduce the emission of smoke and CO during combustion.
