Department of polymer materials and engineering was established in 2008, starting to offer 4-year undergraduate program in 2009. By integrating our research with preponderant discipline of Chang’an University, we lead state-of-the-art research in the fields of functional polymer materials in road transport industry and civil engineering industry.
The department has 149 current undergraduate students in polymer materials and engineering, and has developed systematic cultivation plan for academic/professional master students in materials science and engineering and PhD students in materials of road engineering and mechanical engineering.
The department currently hosts 13 middle-age and young faculties, among which there are 1 professors, 5 associate professors and 7 assistant professors. They all held PhD degrees and 9 of them have postdoctoral and international research experience.
The department promotes international academic exchange and boosts long-term international cooperation with many famous universities and institutions, such as The Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research in Dresden, Auburn University, Institute of Chemistry of Chinese academy of Sciences, Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fudan University, Sichuan University and Northwestern Polytechnical University.
Based on Engineering Research Center of Transportation Pavement Materials, Ministry of Education and Material Analysis and Testing Center in Chang’an University, the department develops research of polymer materials applying in the fields of road transport, construction and auto industry. We have established research interests in synthesis and modification of high performance polymers, synthesis and applications of hyperbranched polymer, polymer for road construction, organic-inorganic hybrid composites, Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) materials, sensing film materials, functional modification of nanomaterials and surfactant for traffic engineering. So far, we have published 60 papers on core journals, applied 20 patents and won 5 rewards. The department has undertaken 40 research projects sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, provincial funds and some companies, which achieves research funding of more than 5 million RMB.
