The Department of Material Forming and Control Engineering, formerly majoring in thermal processing technology and equipment of Xi'an Highway College, began to recruit students in 1956 and officially recruited undergraduates in 1962. Based on the development of social economy and science and technology in the West and serving the country, the Department aims at the related industries of material forming and control engineering. It has solid scientific basic theory and material processing principle, forming technology and control expertise, and can be used in machinery manufacturing, material preparation, material processing and control and related fields. Engineering and technical personnel engaged in technology development, design and manufacture, production organization and management, etc.
The Department currently has 27 staffs, 25 doctorates and 15 teachers with overseas study and exchange experience. There are 4 professors, 14 associate professors, 1 doctoral tutor, 19 master tutors and 1 young Chang'an scholar.
The Department pays attention to international exchanges and cooperation. It has long established long-term and stable cooperation and exchanges with many famous universities and scientific research institutions, such as Purdue University, Queensland University, New South Wales University, Toronto University in Canada and Nottingham University in the United Kingdom, including visits to lectures, cooperative research and postgraduate training, which are conducive to promoting the specialty. The overall level will be improved and the international influence and status of the specialty will be expanded. At the same time, it has established long-term cooperative relations with key universities such as Northwest Polytechnic University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Northwest Research Institute of Nonferrous Metals, China Aviation Group and other research institutions as well as key enterprises in the industry.
The department is based on the comprehensive experimental center of thermal processing, and has set up more than ten sub-laboratories, such as metallographic laboratory, foundry laboratory, heat treatment laboratory, performance laboratory, thermal spraying laboratory and surface treatment laboratory. The total building area is 3400 square meters, and the total value of the equipment is more than 140 million RMB. In recent years, it has undertaken to complete the national key research and development plan successively. National Natural Science Foundation, Ministry-level and Provincial Science and Technology Department have published many high-level academic papers in important academic journals at home and abroad, and have been granted a number of national invention patents. In the past five years, it has won five appraisals of technical achievements at or above the provincial level and one first prize of science and technology in Shaanxi Province.
