Recently, the research team led by Professor Zhao Qinyang and Professor Chen Yongnan from our college has published an online research paper entitled "Trifunctional local-range order oxygen structure enhanced strength-ductility and fatigue resistance in large-scale metastable titanium alloy" in Nature Communications. Doctoral student Mao Yamei is the first author, Professor Zhao Qinyang and Professor Chen Yongnan are the co-corresponding authors, and Chang'an University is the sole corresponding unit.

How to resolve the inverse relationship between strength and plasticity, as well as the difficulty in reconciling fatigue strength with strength and plasticity, has long been a major challenge in the field of titanium alloy materials. In this study, a local ordered structure of oxygen elements is introduced into titanium alloys for the first time. By regulating the deformation mechanism of the material, the synergistic improvement of three properties of the alloy—strength, plasticity, and fatigue strength—is achieved. The research results provide a new scheme for the strengthening and toughening design of titanium alloy materials and the expansion of their applications.
