Undergraduate Program for International Students Majoring in Materials Science and Engineering

  1. Program introduction:

Materials Science and Engineering, as an interdisciplinary specialty among Materials Science, Physics and Chemistry, has a tight relationship with the rapid development of economy and technology. Under the philosophy of “solid foundation, wide knowledge scope, be innovative and competent”, this major shape all the trainings to ensure that the student has solid fundamental theoretical background and rich experimental skills in the field of Materials Science and Engineering, has the professional knowledge and skills to understand the composition of materials, its preparation process, performance and application. Meanwhile, the major aim to cultivate high composite person with ability of conducting materials design, development and application.

  1. Objective:

The goal of the bachelor program for international students in Materials Science and Engineering is to cultivate innovative technical and managerial personnel for development, manufacturing and management in the field of civil engineering, construction, mechanical engineering and automotive industry. The courses are designed to foster qualified engineers who are well developed morally, intellectual and physically with solid fundamental theories and knowledge for developing, fabrication, testing and application of engineering materials. Furthermore, the program ensures that the students with international perspectives could study in multicultural environment and be capable of communicating via Mandarin and applying computer skills in daily lives.

  1. Requirements:

1).Quality requirement

Moral requirement: Have the right view of world, life and values, be responsibility, have legal awareness, follow the rules and laws, love the major, have occupational morality, the awareness of integrity and teamwork spirit.

Cultural requirement: have literature and art accomplishment, ability of communication and modern thinking.

Professional requirement: master scientific way of thinking and researching, have the sense of creation and integrity, strict scientific literacy, engineering and efficiency consciousness.

Physical requirement: be healthy physically and mentally.

2).Abilities requirement

Ability of learning knowledge: self-study ability, information acquisition ability, ability of expression.

Ability of using knowledge: cognitive ability, practical ability of theory, knowledge of engineering design and analysis, understand details of each part of a system and the whole system as well, fully understand fundamental theories and apply to practical based on theories.

Creative ability: the ability of creative thinking, creative experiment, scientific development, scientific research, sensitivity and reaction to new knowledge and new technologies.

3).Knowledge requirement

Instrumental knowledge: English, computer application, document indexing, scientific writing, etc.

Social science knowledge: literature, philosophy, politics, sociology, law, psychology, ethics, professional ethics, art, etc.

Natural science knowledge: mathematics, physics, chemistry, etc.

Professional foundation knowledge: Engineering Mechanics, Fundamentals of Materials Science, Mechanics of Materials, Performance Testing of Engineering Materials, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Design and Mold Manufacturing, etc.

Professional knowledge:Materials Fabrication Technology,Material processing and forming technology, Civil engineering materials, Engineering Polymer Materials, etc.
