In view of the innovative work and accumulation in the field of dielectric polymers, Dr. Junji Wei and Prof. Lei Zhu of Case Western Reserve University wrote a review paper titled “Intrinsic polymer dielectrics for high energy density and low loss electric energy storage”, which has been published on Progress in Polymer Science (IF24.505), a top journal in polymer materials.

Dielectric polymers play an important role in new energy vehicles, high-speed railways, printable electronic devices and other power electronic equipment. In this review, firstly, the concepts of extrinsic dielectric polymer and intrinsic dielectric polymer were proposed. Then the polarization mechanism, advantages and disadvantages of the two kinds of dielectric polymers were further discussed. The feasible way to improve the dielectric constant of the dielectric polymers while maintaining low dielectric loss was deeply analyzed. At the end of the paper, it was proposed that the intrinsic dielectric polymers represented by dipolar glass polymers and multilayer film were the optimal materials for high energy storage capacitor.
